To forgive is brutally difficult. But the only answer to the “seventy times seven” vengeance of Lamech is the “seventy times seven” forgiveness of Jesus. To do good to those who hate us is all but impossible, but every Gospel shares with us this relentless vision of Jesus; that his followers will be the sorts of people who can absorb harm and return blessing.
